John B. Bosetti, M.D., co-founded the Eye Surgeons International Foundation in 2023 to improve access to eye care for underserved communities. John graduated with Highest Honors from the University of California, Davis, with a degree in Physiology. He was awarded the College Medal at UC Davis, given to the most outstanding graduate in the college. He earned his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) in 1987 and was named a Regents Scholar at both UC Davis and UCSF. He completed his ophthalmology training at UCSF in 1991 and is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society.
John is a two-time recipient of the Hogan Award for laboratory research in ophthalmology at UCSF. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmologists and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. John has taught cataract surgery to UCSF residents for many years and is now focused on teaching doctors in underserved areas worldwide.
In 1991, John and Nancy Jameson founded the Eye Specialists of the Napa Valley.
Mark Nicoletti serves as the Chief Development Officer of Eye Surgeons
International, where he leads efforts to raise philanthropic revenue in support of its
mission to cure preventable blindness. He is deeply committed to expanding
resources for sustainable, high-impact eye care and believes that increasing support
for ESI’s projects will transform lives and communities by restoring sight. He
volunteers his time in this role while continuing his career in finance.
Mark is Managing Director of the Family Office Group at Evergreen Gavekal,
where he oversees the firm’s family office services for ultra-high-net-worth
clientele and plays a key role in its investment strategy. He is also a member of
Evergreen Gavekal’s Investment Team.
Before joining Evergreen, he was Regional Vice President at Forward
Management, an asset management firm founded by the Getty Family in San
Francisco. There, he led a successful expansion effort that grew the firm’s assets
from $500 million to over $6 billion. Earlier in his career, Mark worked as a
Specialist Equity Trader at UBS/PaineWebber in Los Angeles.
He earned his BA in Business Finance from the University of Southern California,
where he was a scholarship athlete on the golf team and a four-time USC Scholar-
Athlete Award winner. Golf remains one of his passions, and he continues to
compete in USGA amateur events. Mark is based in Napa, California, where he
lives with his wife, and enjoys golf, investment strategy, and supporting
philanthropic initiatives that create lasting impact.
Joseph Bosetti is the Chief Financial Officer, Chairman of the Fundraising & Development Committee, and Chairman of the Campus Building Committee for Eye Surgeons International. He oversees the organization’s financial operations, ensuring fiscal responsibility and strategic financial planning to support its mission.
With a background in mathematical and computational science from Stanford University, Joe brings a strong analytical and strategic perspective to his leadership roles. His experience as a management consultant at Bain & Company and as Director of Growth Strategy at an early-stage tech company has equipped him with expertise in organizational efficiency, financial management, and data-driven decision-making.
In addition to managing ESI’s financial structure, Joe provides technological, organizational, logistical, and administrative support to the Chief Development Officer, Mark Nicoletti. He also leads efforts to develop the new high-efficiency eye care delivery hospital and teaching campus in Zimba, Zambia, ensuring that the project is structured for long-term sustainability and impact.
Outside of his professional work, Joe enjoys surfing, cycling, skiing, hiking, and running.
Dr. Phong Vu has been a Doctor of Optometry at Eye Specialists of Napa Valley since 2007 where he treats conditions, diseases, and injuries of the eye, as well as corrective vision.
As a graduate from the University of California at Berkeley, he continued his optometric education at the University of Berkeley School of Optometry. From there, he completed internships at the Omni Eye Services in New Jersey and New York, as well as at the Veterans Affairs hospital in California and Washington.
Throughout his studies, Dr. Vu was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Society and worked with the Berkeley chapter of VOSH International — a nonprofit organization with the mission to bring vision to every person on the planet — to perform eye exams in several cities throughout Thailand.
